4.50 am to 5.10 am, Pick up from the hotel in Cusco to embark on an exciting tour to the province of Canas, a complete and fascinating option to explore the southern region of Cusco and discover the rich history, nature, culture and geography of this beautiful corner of Peru.
During our journey, we will admire the enigmatic Laguna de Urcos, famous for the stories that tell how the last Inca ordered all the gold of the Empire to be kept there to protect it from the Spanish. We will also pass through the districts that were home to Tupac Amaru II, a prominent Peruvian indigenous leader during the "Great Rebellion" against the Spanish Crown in Latin America.
We will continue our trip with the contemplation of the unique Pabellones Volcano in Yanaoca, whose modest 4 meters in diameter will impress us. In this beautiful environment, we can enjoy the view of the Pampamarca Lagoon.
Upon arriving at "Queswachaca" at 3,792 meters above sea level, we will immerse ourselves in the architectural and historical richness of the ancestral Inca bridge of "Q'eswachaka" (Straw Bridge), a structure that stands majestically over the mighty Apurimac River. in the province of Canas. This last Inca bridge requires annual maintenance due to the wear and tear of its material (straw) caused by the inclement weather of the Andean region.
The reconstruction of this impressive bridge is a work carried out by the peasant communities of Chaupibamda, Choccayhua, Ccollana, Quehue and Huinchiri, all belonging to the district of Quehue. With a length of 33 meters and a width of 1.20 meters, its construction is based exclusively on straw (Ichu), a plant fiber that the inhabitants of the highlands of the Puna region braid, dry in the sun, crush and crush to make the long and fine ropes (QUESWAS), which are then twisted and braided again.
To culminate this enriching tour, we will visit the impressive caves of Ccarañahui or Q'arañahui, a spectacular close to our return to Cusco.
