The Short Inca Trail is an itinerary which offers an intense two-day experience, combining the majesty of nature with the historical richness of the Inca archaeological sites, culminating with the impressive visit to Machu Picchu.

ITINERARY - Day 1: Cusco – km. 104 – Wiñayhuayna – Aguas Calientes
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – km. 104 – Wiñayhuayna – Aguas Calientes
At the indicated time, pick up from the hotel and transfer from Cusco to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there, you will board the train to Km 104, which marks the starting point of the journey.
The journey begins at km 104, a route that combines nature and Inca ruins. The hike offers spectacular views.
At the beginning of the Inca trail, we will explore the ancient archaeological ruin of Chachabamba (2,270 meters above sea level) with the company of a professional guide.
We will continue our journey towards the most prominent elevation of this journey, where we will marvel at the archaeological complex of Wiñayhuayna (2,650 meters above sea level). Wiñayhuayna is considered the most significant archaeological site in the middle of this captivating landscape, surrounded by majestic subtropical mountains.
Advancing on our tour, we will cross Inti Punku (Puerta del Sol, 2,780 meters above sea level) until we reach the impressive archaeological park of Machu Picchu (2,400 meters above sea level).
Here, we will board a bus to the town of Aguas Calientes (2,050 meters above sea level), where we will spend the night in a cozy hotel.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Citadel – Cusco
After breakfast, pick up from the hotel.
In the early hours of the morning, we will head towards the Citadel of Machu Picchu (2,400 meters above sea level) taking the first bus. The journey will last approximately 30 minutes, culminating in the arrival at Machu Picchu, where the guided tour of this modern wonder, one of the seven wonders of the world, will begin.
Our guide will share details about the history and architecture of the Citadel, highlighting the fascinating Inca buildings and the natural environment that surrounds Machu Picchu.
Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the Machupichu citadel on your own to capture photographs, you will also be offered the option of an additional visit to the summit of Huayna Picchu or the Temple of the Moon.
You will then have free time to capture photographs or explore Huayna Picchu Mountain on your own. This journey, which will take approximately an hour and a half, will be an experience that will undoubtedly be worth it, since we will literally be among the clouds.
The view from the top is impressive and the experience will be unforgettable. We will enjoy the moment, we will have fun and we will recharge with energy while we contemplate the majesty of the surroundings.
There, we will have a guided tour led by our guides, with extensive cultural knowledge.
The tour will run smoothly, and you will then have free time to explore independently. You will have the option of taking an optional visit to the summit of Huayna Picchu or the Temple of the Moon.
To conclude, we will all meet in the city of Aguas Calientes before boarding the train that will take us back to the town of Ollantaytambo and a transport to the city of Cusco.
Remember that to trek the Inca Trail, even in its shorter version, you will need to obtain a permit, and these are limited. Make sure you book in advance. Also, keep in mind the regulations and weather conditions, and prepare properly for trekking and visiting Machu Picchu.

A backpack and a rain poncho.
Enough clothing for cold weather and warm weather (since the weather can be cold and wet, therefore your wet clothes will not be able to dry overnight).
